What game do you know of where technique was once considered worth much more than fitness? In fact where fitness was considered unnecessary, but is now essential for anybody who wants to get to the top? That is no longer considered a leisure game but a true sport? You know the answer to that.
Golf exercise and fitness are essential to the modern player. Tiger Woods drove the point home to men and Annika Sorendstam to women. Both were supreme athletes when they hit the golf scene and showed the way forward to those who considered their technique to be as perfect as you can get, yet still could not improve their game.
Golf exercise and fitness programs are now essential to all golfers who aspire to play better for a number of reasons, and an increasing number of golfers are using golf fitness professionals. However, it is crucial to keep in mind that your golf exercise and fitness program must be designed specifically for golf. Many fitness trainers re offering programs for golfers, even they have no previous experience of working with golfers. They think that ordinary athl3etic fitness exercises will do.
However, this is not true. You may get fitter walking on a treadmill, bench pressing weights or doing highly aerobic circuit training, but you will not improve your golf game. The golf swing is a complex and unnatural rotational movement which requires specific special training techniques. Golf exercise and fitness routines are specifically for golf. They might not help a track athlete, but they will help a golfer!
The major objective of a golf exercise and fitness program is to get you swinging with the maximum power your body can generate, round after round. To build the consistency which comes from strength and flexibility in the joints and muscles you use when playing golf. The way to achieve this is not to build the strength of a weightlifter, but by using lighter weights for a relatively short period of time to strengthen up those muscles you use in your swing, such the muscles of your shoulders, lower back, glutes and thighs.
Well designed golf exercise and fitness programs also improve your flexibility through stretching of these muscles and of the joints they control. This type of golf-specific exercise also reduces injuries in areas such as the shoulders, arms and lower back.
Such programs can be expensive, which is why I put together an online golf training program 6 years ago which not only avoids the normal high costs associated with a personal golf exercise and fitness instructor, but also brings it to you on your computer, right in your own home or even your office.
Video demonstration of all the exercises, with simple instruction for each and every one, can be printed off or viewed on screen. Golf performance issues which are given their own section include driving distance, motivation, consistency and the mental attitude to the game. There are many others.
Your game will improve more than you could believe with a proper professional golf exercise and fitness program.
