Golf Training > Golf Fitness > Core Training For Golf StrengthCore Training For Golf Strength
In a previous article, core strength for golf, I briefly went over the core, and how it relates to more power in your golf swing. Now I want to educate you even more…on core training for golf, and how specific strength exercises can make a dramatic difference in your clubhead speed, power and driving distance. Rotational Power In Your CoreThe key to power in your golf swing is rotation. The more torque you can build up in your core on the backswing (full turn) equals a higher clubhead speed and more power at impact. Improving your strength from a core rotational standpoint is your answer to longer drives than ever before! Core training is just that. Working on your core (abdominals) with resistance to improve power, like the picture you see of me to the above, which is in my Advance Golf Training DVD set. There are many ways to 'skin a cat'...and I'll try to make it easy for you to understance. Strength Exercises For A Stronger CoreCore strength for golf can be improved by using weighted medicine balls, exercise tubing, stability balls and dumbbells. Nothing more! The important thing to remember is making each core movement as similar to your golf swing as possible. One way is to get in your golf posture and make turns back and through with a medicine ball, exercise tubing or a single dumbbell. You can't get anymore golf specific than that. When you hear golfers talk about golf strength training, this is it. Using resistance specific to your swing…isolating your core muscles, and generating a higher more powerful rate of speed with every movement. Core Training Specific To Your Golf SwingAs I mention above, the more specific you can get to your golf swing, the quicker you will see results in your power and driving distance. The golf swing is dynamic and in golf posture, which is "on your feet", bent at the hips and knees flexed. This awkward position needs to be sustained throughout each exercise for maximum benefit. Finding creative ways to challenge your core golf strength, while in this position should be your goal. The End Result - Longer DrivesThe reason for all this is to hit longer drives consistently for 18 holes. To accomplish this takes a higher level of core strength, and obviously better swing mechanics. So many golfers are looking for the secret to longer drives. Well…this is it! Get your core strength at a higher level and watch your drives soar long and straight! Core Golf Strength Training Resource If you want a step-by-step plan, of simple exercises, stretches and programs, take a look at the Golf Training Manual. You'll never need another resource to improve the physical aspect of your game! Mike Pedersen |
