Golf Training > Golf Fitness > Golf Fitness CoachA Golf Fitness Coach Will Motivate You To SuccessWhat is a golf fitness coach? Have you ever heard of one before? Do you think they can help your game? There are many terms used for personal trainers, but for golf specific fitness the most common terms are golf fitness expert; golf trainer; golf fitness professional, and golf fitness coach. Golf And Fitness ExperienceIf you're looking into getting on a golf fitness program, you'll want to make sure of several things before you spend a dime. They are the knowledge of the golf swing, and experience in the fitness field. With golf being a booming recreation, more and more trainers are jumping on the bandwagon marketing themselves as golf fitness coaches. They realize it could be a very lucrative niche, and are trying to expose it. It's real easy to find out their knowledge of the golf swing. Simple questions like do they golf? If so, for how long and what is their handicap? Ask basic golf fundamentals like grip, stance, posture, ball position, take-away, downswing and impact. You will know in less than two minutes if they are pulling your leg or not. Also, have they taken any golf lessons themselves? Do they understand the relationship between golf instruction and fitness? There is a critical bond that should be there. If not, you're only going to get confusing information, that may worsen your golf swing, not make it better. There fitness experience particular to golfers should be the next question. How long have they been in the fitness field? How long have they been working with golfers? What are their certifications or education in the field? I'm not a big fan of certificates on the wall. There are thousands of certified professionals in any field that are horrible in a private setting. I would like to know they've gone to college in the field of exercise physiology, kinesiology or even biomechanics. That would give me an idea they know athletic movement and how the muscles response. Personal SkillsAs important to the above information, people skills is very important. What kind of chemistry you have with a trainer is critical. Do you respect them? Do they respect you? Do they really pay attention to you during the session? I hope they don't bring a coffee, coke or muscle drink with them...I have seen this and just cringe. Every session is a different challenge. You may have a strain or soreness the trainer may need to work around. Do they work around it, or hammer you instead? Dialing into a client is critical. Do they ask about your current golf game during the session? Any swing faults you are currently having. You would be amazed at the lack of attention a trainer can give a client. One other very important thing to remember! You can have them come to your home for an in home golf fitness program. This is very convenient, but might cost you a little more than if you were to go to them in a local fitness club. CostAs you may or may not know, fitness trainers can be quite expensive depending on their level of experience and knowledge of their specialty. In this case golf. The fees can range anywhere from $30 a session to over $200 a session. Remember...that's for one session. I have been charging $150 per session for many years now. Because this can get expensive, I have been hounded by clients to put together golf fitness dvds, books and information that they can use long term, without spending thousands of dollars per year. So I did! My golf fitness dvds and golf training manual have been on the market for over 4 years now. It's pretty neat to get emails from golfers all over the world and how their games have improved. End Result - SuccessThe bottom line is a better golf swing! You should see some improvement in as little as 6 sessions. Your flexibility should improve and help you make a bigger backswing with more power. You should be able to stay in your posture throughout your golf swing. The human body is amazing! It responds quickly with the right approach. I hope this short article has opened your eyes to how a golf fitness coach can benefit your golf game! Mike Pedersen |
