Golf fitness equipment is used to improve both strength and flexibility in golfers by utilizing the very same muscles that are used in the golf swing.
With the golf fitness market booming, there is countless pieces of equipment coming out that costs an arm and a leg, and really doesn't do any more than some of the simple, and very inexpensive equipment I use in all my golf fitness dvds, trainng manual and golf fitness program like My Golf Trainer.
The golf fitness equipment I'm talking about is not in a gym, nor is it big, bulky machines. These are more of a hinderance than a help for golfers. The golf swing is a very unique movement, that cannot be replicated by any machines. It would be virtually impossible to develop a machine that puts your body in the same positions as the golf swing.
That is why most effective training programs incorporate standing movements with tubing, balls, and dumbbells, which are easily manipulated into very similar positions as your golf swing.
You may have seen these exercise bands before. They are like big rubber bands with handles. These are ideal to do every phase of the golf swing with the resistance of the bands. You can do downswings, follow throughs and every phase in between. This equipment is also called golf exercise tubing.
Fitness balls are great for core stability, balls and coordination, all very important attributes to the golfer. These balls give you an unstable base, very similar to your golf stance. Train with these balls for a while and your core strength and stability will be amazing, translating into a very controlled, yet powerful golf swing. Another term for these is golf exercise balls.
These balls are like heavy basketballs. They are ideal for rotational training with resistance. This will develop unbelievable rotational strength, effectively improving clubhead speed and distance. They are also golf medicine balls.
These types of weights are hand weights or dumbbells. They can be used in many different dynamic positions, similar to your golf swing. Use them with one arm at a time, alternating, or together.
So as you can see, my definition of golf fitness equipment is much different than many. But I can assure you, this is all the equipment you need to play great golf!
