A golfer needs to know his/her physical limitations, and partaking in a golf fitness evaluation is the most accurate way to diagnose and prescribe a golf fitness program.
Golf Strength Tests
There are some very common golf strength tests that can be done to determine your strength in your core, hamstrings, lower back and even shoulders that will give you a clear idea of what weaknesses you may have and how it affects your golf swing.
Testing your golf specific strength will not only show your weaknesses, but may also determine why you are injury-prone in certain areas of your body.
Golf Specific Flexibility Tests
Measuring your golf specific flexibility or range of motion is critical to seeing why you are having a difficult time making a mechanically sound golf swing. More times than not, it is a range of motion restriction that is not allowing your body to make a good swing.
Golf Balance
Balance in the golf swing is critical. Most older golfers have a lower level of balance and there swing shows it. If you cannot make a swing without falling out of your golf posture, you have a balance issue. There may be many causes of this, but finding out is pertinent to your golf success.
Golf Coordination
Making a sound and repeatable golf swing takes coordination. You can link the above balance with coordination to improve your golf swing tremendously. Your coordination is how you handle your body in space during a particular biomechanical movement. This is also called proprioceptive awareness.
I see many golfers who have a low level of coordination and unfortunately their golf swing shows it. If you can improve your body control, the sky is the limit.
It is now becoming increasingly clear that a golf fitness evaluation is critical in determining your starting point of any golf fitness program.
