There seems to be a new profession that is gaining in popularity and is helping golfers of all ages and abilities play better golf. These professionals are calling themselves a golf fitness expert. All the players on tour work with one, and they now swear by them. You should take notice!
Having been a certified fitness trainer for over 25 years, I came to a realization 10 years ago, that golfers cold benefit from a exercise program specific to golf.
Golfers have physical limitations. These limitations can be addressed with a credible golf program of specific fitness exercises. These exercises AND stretches will address your limitations and get you swinging better than you have in years!
Because this new profession is growing in popularity, there are many "so-called" experts who don't even know golf. This would be a disaster for a golfer. If you are interested in pursuing a fitness professional for golf, there are many thing so consider.
First off...does the trainer play golf personally? If so, what is his handicap? Secondly, does he have a knowledge of the golf swing from a mechanical standpoint? And thirdly, can he apply fitness to golf in a way that directly benefits the golfer in an expedient way?
One of the first questions to ask a golf fitness expert is how long have they been doing it and if they are certified at it? This is a telltale. You would hope to hear something like 5 or more years in the field, and a certification that is credible.
Secondly is golf. What type of level are they at both playing the game and understanding golf swing instruction and application? A good fitness expert for golf could very easily work hand in hand with any golfers teaching pro and create a win/win solution.
