Golf Training > Golf Fitness > Golf Fitness SystemGolf Fitness SystemA golf fitness system may sound foreign to you, but it is a complete training program geared to improve golfers golf specific strength, flexibility, power, driving distance, accuracy, consistency and prevent injuries. This is a total golf performance approach to playing your best golf! I put my system together over 2 years ago and have recieved some dramatice feedback. You may hear this term more and more on the net (chuckle...copycat competitors) but you must make sure which ever one you go with suits YOUR needs and nobody elses. There are several things to consider when looking into a golf improvement program like this. Improve Power With Golf Specific ExercisesWhen you think of golf exercises, don't think of grueling, sweating exercises done in a gym along side the muscle heads. Not even close! I don't want you to even think of breaking a sweat believe it or not. The type of exercises I'm talking about can be done in your home with exercise tubing, a ball and hand weights...that's it! You don't have to kill yourself to get in better shape for golf. You just have to do the right golf fitness program to get the most out of it. I am always dispelling the myth that exercise needs to be grueling, hard and take up a lot of your time. How about 20 minutes a day? You can see dramatic improvement with this much time and effort. Fitness Specific To Your Golf SwingThe golf swing is a very unnatural movement that requires specific exercises, stretches and movements to improve it. The body position (golf posture) is not natural, and requires special exercises to strengthen and stretch those muscles. Every phase of the golf swing involves muscles in many unique positions. Any fitness or conditioning program needs to take this into consideration. A general fitness program will do a golfer no good. I see so many "so-called golf fitness expert trainers, therapists and conditioning professionals with their so-called golf exercise programs having golfers sit on machines working one muscle at a time. This is the farthest thing from golf specific exercise. Golf Stretching To Remove Tension And StrainStretching specific to golf is very much like the exercises I was talking about earlier. Take a look at the positions your body is in at every phase of the golf swing and there is a stretch you can do to improve it. Tension is the killer in the golf swing, and tension is mostly caused by tight, inflexible muscles. Doing golf stretches to loosen these muscles will greatly improve your ability to make a full golf swing with minimal tension, which in return lessens the incidence of golf injuries. This newfound flexibility will also improve your balance, stability, coordination and body awareness, helping you make a consistent swing for 18 holes! Golf stretches also need to be progressive. Less demanding ones for the beginner fitness golfer; and progressing to more challenging balance and coordination stretches for the experienced fitness golfer. By progressing through achievable levels of golf stretches, you will continually see an improvement in your golf swing range of motion and ultimately performance. Longer drives that go straight will not be a "hope" anymore. They will be a reality. Golf SuccessThe whole point to this approach is an improvement in your golf swing and performance. If this doesn't happen, what's the point of all of it. I am a firm believer in return on investment. That goes for both money and time. If you don't get a reasonable return in a short period of time, there are only two culprits. You are not doing your golf fitness system (program) consistently or you are doing a golf exercise program that is not geared for golfers. I have heard from thousands of golfers who have joined gyms; gone 5 days a week; and still haven't seen improvement. It is because what they were doing was not specific to the demands of golf. Stop looking for the "magic bullet" and realize the golf swing is a physically demanding movement that needs a conditioning approach to improve it. Once you realize this, you will be on your way to a great game of golf! Mike Pedersen |
