Putting together a fitness plan for golf can be overwhelming. Where do you start? What exactly do you do? And where do you find the resources you can trust?
With fitness for golf booming on tour and now on the television, there are a ton of people coming out with their so-called golf fitness products. Whether it be dvds, books or online memberships. I was one of the first on the net over 7 years ago, so I know firsthand how much it's grown. I have to say I am a bit disappointed with what's coming out. They don't get it! Golfers like you, don't want to become gym rats or spend hours a day doing strenuous exercises. Am I right?
I'm talking about exercises with light to moderate weight using either inexpensive dumbbells, exercise tubing or weighted medicine balls. All this equipment is very cheap, portable and easy to use.
Golf stretches don't have to be hard or straining. In fact, doing them that way puts you at a high risk of injury! In my golf stretching dvd, I have put together a routine you can do in less than 7 minutes a couple of times a week. That's it! 7 minutes a couple of times a week to have a full backswing loaded with power
I'm telling you...in less than 30 minutes you can dramatically improve your golf specific fitness. A golf fitness plan can and should be done in your home! There is NO need for a gym membership. The machines in a gym won't help your golf swing. They may in fact hurt it! Doing golf specific exercises requires minimal equipment. Exercising tubing, dumbbells and an exercise ball is all you'll ever need.
Any golf improvement program must include the physical aspect. With the golf swing requiring a high level of golf specific strength and flexibility, this must be addressed. So many times I see golfers banging balls, taking lessons and spending hundreds of dollars on equipment…only to be frustrated even more at their lack of results.
I can't tell you unequivocally it's your body holding you back. How many times have you walked off the course not playing up to your potential, but you felt like you really tried? How many times have you given a 100% on a swing to watch the ball go no where? This is a physical issue, not an equipment or practice issue
Like anything in life…you get out of it what you put in. This goes for your golf fitness plan too! If you take the diet approach, you will fail. What I mean by that is having the attitude…'you'll try it". If you're going to do it, give it a real go! The key is to make whatever you do, realistic for you, your lifestyle and your schedule.
You do not have to make it your life, nor do you have to spend 2 hours everyday. Schedule out what is reasonable and stick with it. Go conservative at first, to build up some success and confidence. Then you can decide if you want to bump it up a notch, or stick with what you're successful at. Either way, you will be successful with this approach.
There's not much more to say to convince you of this approach. If you aren't a believer, then get used to a long life of frustrating golf. You must take a serious look at a golf fitness plan if you want to avoid the ravages of age as your playing days get closer to an end.
