You’ve
joined the ranks of the senior golfers. Your backswing is getting a bit shorter
and these last few holes are bringing some aches and pains to your wrist, hips
and back.
You think you’re past it. No Way!
You’re no different to your buddies. we all get older. Our backswings start to go and we lose a bit of distance. The older a golfer gets the more he seems to lose – funny, isn’t it!
As far as I can see...you've really got two options if you happen to be a senior golfer...
The first option...You can sigh and accept your age; stick to watching the game, as many senior golfers do, rather than playing it. Is that what you want? I don’t think so! Take my advice and go for the second optionwhich is to find the cause of the problem and cure it! I can help, but I can’t do it for you.
What is it that you have to work on? Not your swing or your putt. What is it? Your body of course. That’s right – your body! All senior golfers have one!
You have loads of great golfing years ahead, but you have to recognize your weaknesses and arrange your training round them. It’s not rocket science but it works, and you can do it right in your own home. Improve your fitness relative to your golf game. Plenty of senior golfers carry out fitness exercises, and I can show you dozens that allow you to keep flexible and supple, maintain your mental agility.
If you want to keep enjoying playing you must decide this now. You have to if your future is to involve golf.
Get a clear picture in your mind of the kind of golfer you can be, and decide to be that golfer. I can’t do that for you. You have to do it yourself, but….just think. Wouldn’t it be great to see your buddies’ faces when you started getting better with age!
Get the motivation to recognize the true potential senior golfers have, and come up with a plan to realize that. You can do it by yourself, or get a fitness professional to help.
It’s not that hard. Some stretching and strength exercises for senior golfers twice a week would make a big difference. Here’s one you can try at home right now, so get off your seat and get ready to stretch! It will do wonders for your lower back. I call it the ‘Lying Leg Crossover’
Lie on your back with legs straight out in front. * Raise a leg and bend to
90 degrees at the knee and hip.
* Keeping your opposite shoulder on ground, bend it over your other leg.
* Keep bending till you feel a slight pull in you lower back and buttock.
* Hold and repeat.
* Change legs and do it with the opposite leg.
There are lots of these easy home exercises for senior golfers and they will improve your flexibility, and keep you playing for years to come. Your golfing buddies will be amazed….and a little bit jealous.
Happy golfing! Remember: keep it long and straight!
