Are you a macho guy? Yoga? Not! Now just sit
down...take a pill and read on!
I promise you won't look like your friend in this picture. He looks like he is really enjoying himself doesn't he? You don't have to get tied up into a pretzel to get some benefit to your golf game from yoga.
Yoga has always been perceived as an activity women do to relieve stress and feel better from a holistic standpoint. Yoga is now for the boys! Men are doing it more and more...but will it help your golf?
Considering the positions and stretches you get from yoga (ignoring the picture of our friend) the muscles in your golf swing will definitely be looser. My only concerne with yoga is the long hold times. You don't need to hold a yoga pose or stretch for onver 10 seconds to get a benefit to your game.
The kind of yoga you and I would do is "quick yoga" stretches. Get in and out of every stretch and get on with your day! Do you have to do yoga to get more limber for golf? Nope. Doing 3-4 golf specific stretches will do the trick! Targeting the restrictions in your golf swing with effective stretches is all you need.
I know time is a valuable commodity and you're not willing to give up much for this fitness thing, but as I have said many times before, you only need to do 7 minutes a day of stretching for golf to see a benefit! I'm not kidding! Just make sure the 7 minutes you are spending is specific to your golf swing faults and goals.
This stretching can either be yoga as mentioned earlier, or stretching specific to golf be it with a golf club, or just getting in your golf positions and stretching those specific muscles. Either way will greatly benefit your golf swing.
If you don't want to be a contortionist like the crazy dude at the top, but you want to do the right stretches to improve your golf swing, take a look at my 7 minute golf stretching dvd.
