Golf Fitness > Golf Injuries > Golfers Elbow CureFind Out The Causes And Treatment Of Shoulder Pain In GolfersGolfers experience should pain and injury from the obvious stress of the golf swing. But treatment to address these problems is critical, and exercises specific to potentially chronic issue are necessary. Causes of Pain In The ShoulderThere are several movements in th golf swing that put the shoulder joint at risk. For instance, take a look at the top of your backswing. Look at your right arm position if you're a right handed golfer. Your shoulder is externally rotated in a very expose and vulnerable position isn't it? Believe it or not, many golfers can't get in this position because of physical restrictions. The end result is compensations that create a whole host of swing faults and other potential overuse injuries. Now look at your finish or follow through. Same position in shoulder joint but the other shoulder this time. Many golfers can't ever get in this required position, and instead have the "chicken wing", where the elbow flys out away from the body in order to take the pressure off the restricted shoulder joint. So the "flying elbow" is not a mechanical issue, it's a physical one! Address the physical issue and your swing mechanics automatically improve. Treatment Of Shoulder Injury And Other ProblemsIn order to help you treat your shoulder injury, the first thing you should do is STOP doing what hurts it. If it's your golf swing, take some time off to let it heal. Continuing to play will only agitate it. Secondly, if it's a new pain, ice it for several minutes several times a day for the next 48 hours. This will keep the inflammation down (and also the pain). It is not easy to cure golfer's elbow, but it will come with patience, and
you can use your time off watching some good golf training
and fitness videos. Mike Pedersen |
