Golf Fitness > Golf Injuries >Golf Shoulder Pain And InjuryGolf Shoulder Pain And Injury
Shoulder pain in golf is very common. Swinging a three and a half foot implement (golf club) at upwards of 80 mph is traumatic to many joints in the body, and especially the shoulder joint. Shoulder Pain Solution For GolfersThere are a couple of solutions to this shoulder pain many golfers experiences. The first one is a "no-brainer", but most golfers won't do it, because they think they'll lose distance off the tee. This solution is a shorter backswing, which keeps the stress off the shoulders, that occurs from over-extending the arms through the shoulder joint to attempt a full backswing. The second solution takes a little bit of work (not much) but it involves strengthening and stretching the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint to prevent this over-extension from happening. This approach will keep you injury-free in the shoulder area indefinitely, if not for your entire golfing career. Halt The Aging Process And Prevent InjuryThe normal aging process brings about reduced muscle mass, less coordination and body awarenes, all of which can cause a golf injury. You won’t keep being lucky, because it comes to all of us, and golf injury will become more common unless you do something about it. There have been several studies, one by Wayne Wescott, co-writer of "Strength Training Past 50", conducted back in 1996, which showed that senior golfers could develop muscle mass and build strength at the same rate as much younger adults. How about that for good news? Strong Muscles Prevent Golf InjuriesIt is a proven fact that stronger muscles protect joints, ligaments and tendons from the stress of tissue breakdown and injury. 80% of all golfers play with a golf injury at some point in their playing days. Why be one of that percent? Be the 20% that plays health golf for many years...and avoids the dreaded golf shoulder injury!
