Golfer elbow injury
The reason why a golfer elbow injury takes so long to heal and in some cases may never really go away, is because it is the sort of injury that involves a joint. Usually injuries on joints are troublesome. One of the reasons is that it is difficult to rest a joint completely and one ends up using the muscles whenever they make any slight movement.

Muscles used in the golf Swing
The core golf muscles are the engine to your golf swing. Like in all athletic movements, your core drives the power. It's the same in baseball, in throwing a discus or shot put, hitting a slapshot in hockey, or any other dynamic power movement.

Physical demands in golf
The golf swing is a fast movement that requires your body to swing a 3 foot implement at speeds of up to 100 mph within a confined (stable) area. To be able to repeat this with a high amount of efficiency (golf swing consistency) you need a higher level of golf strength specific to your golf swing.
