A Golf Weight Training Program Is Not All It Seems

Weight training exercises specific to golf are essential if you want to build the strength necessary to reach the top strata in golf. All the top players, amateurs and professionals, male and female, regard weight training as a critical part of their exercise routine.

Don’t get worried though! It’s not the backbreaking, sweaty lifting of unbelievable weights for hour after hour that you think it is. It strengthens the muscles you use in your swing, and does so by the use of fairly light weights over several repetitions for half an hour so.

Weight Training Should Be Done On Your Feet

The thing about golf exercises, especially if you are working on your swing, is that they are best done on your feet, and using the stance and posture you would be using if actually playing. Golf training with weights is no different – to strengthen your swing, for example, you could use hand weights while swinging your arms as though holding a golf club, or use a weighted club. That’s by far a better way to develop strength for golf than sitting in a machine in a gym, or standing pushing weights.

Other equipment suitable for training is a stability ball, which is used to improve flexibility, exercise tubing and medicine balls. These all allow strength to be build dynamically, using the same muscles as you would when playing golf, and have the beauty of being simple and inexpensive.

Exercise tubing, for example, can be bought for around $20, and can be attached to door in your home or office, and used to practice golf swings. This resistance training is very beneficial and does not require a gym membership!

Golf Training For Confidence

Most people will go to a gym, get on a general fitness training program and give up after a couple of weeks after seeing no benefit in their game. If you follow the advice above you will not only notice a difference in your fitness after two weeks, but also an improvement in your distance and endurance.

When people notice this connection between their golf and their health, they will have the incentive needed to keep at it: I have hundreds of emails from golfers to prove this. Most have enjoyed their programs and the fitness and improvement in their game that comes with golf weight training programs specifically designed for golfers.

Whenever the topic of weight training and golf comes up in conversation, just smile knowingly, with the confidence that comes from fitness for your game and the ability to speak with confidence about a form of training that most golfers know little about.
