Lifting Weights Myths - Ignore Them To Play Better Golf"That lifting weights will hurt your golf swing and damage your golf game" Weight training specific to golfers will result in muscle gain that will affect your golf swing mechanics. To build muscle, you need to be lifting increasingly heavier weights with lower repetitions, increasing your calorie intake dramatically, and spending a couple of hours per day lifting weights. The program I am talking about incorporates medium to light weights, with a repetition range around 12-15, and in a time frame of 30-45 minutes max. This type of golf specific weight training is designed to improve your golf specific strength and endurance, not build muscle. "You will lose flexibility from a weight lifting program." It's the opposite! Muscles that are weak, are also very tight. When you do resistance training, you are increasing blood flow, working through a range of motion specific to your golf swing, while strengthening the tendons and ligaments in every joint of your body. In combination with a stretching program, weight training for golf routine will actually improve flexibility, not hinder it. "My newfound strength in my muscles will hurt my feel for my swing and short game." By increasing the strength of your muscles specific to golf, will give you BETTER control, because your body has more stability, balance, and coordination. Remember we are talking about a regiment specific to your golf swing.
