Golfers need to learn how to become flexible if they want any chance to enjoy golf for years to come. Flexibility is a top requirement for power, distance and injury prevention. Tight muscles produce weak shots and induce "over-use" injuries repeatedly.
You don't have to kill yourself to improve your flexibility and golf swing range of motion. You do however need to target your specific golf muscles to achieve any results that you can take to the course. Focus on one or two muscles groups per day and you'll find it only takes 5-7 minutes out of your day, but the results will be amazing.
Any golf stretching routine should start with a simple warm up to get the blood flowing in the muscles you're going to stretch that day.re you go! This can be as simple as walking up and down your stairs several times; jogging in place; riding a stationary bike for 5 minutes; or taking a warm shower.
Stretching for golf takes a committed effort. What I mean is consistency. As I mentioned above, you can do a very effective routine in 5-7 minutes per day. That's it! But if you are not consistent with it, you'll see very little improvement. Training for flexibility should not wear you out or cause too much soreness. If you have been completely inactive, you may experience some soreness just at the very beginning and that's it.
A golf stretching program consists of 3-4 targeted flexibility exercises daily. Focus on the muscles that are causing your power leaks and swing faults. Each stretch should be done atleast twice and for even better results, do each stretch 3 times to ease into it a little further each time.
Make sure your muscles are warm and that you don't take any stretch beyond a little discomfort. You should not experience pain during any stretch. If so, stop immediately and ice the area.
