If you want more power and distance, you must implement stretching exercise specific to golf. This will quickly add flexibility and a full (and tension-free) motion to your golf swing, versus a tight and restricted backswing with no power.

Golf Stretching In Your Office

There are many different approaches to a stretching exercise for golf program. Some of these stretching exercises can be done right in your office. Even in your chair!

Like the picture to the right. Here...I'm stretching my glute muscles, which play a key role in lower back pain. If you sit at your job all day, do this stretch regularly and your lower back will start to feel much better.

There are literally dozens of simple stretches you can do like this that will have a direct and almost immediate impact on your golf game. Just get creative. Stop your work for a moment and think of a tight muscle and stretch it. Right there! No delay.

Stretching Before Golf

I hardly ever hear of golfers doing stretching before golf. Why? Every other athlete does for his/her sport. Why wouldn't golfers? Stretching for golf before your play should be dynamic (movement oriented). Doing 3-4 key golf stretches targeting your golf swing muscles before you play golf will make a huge difference on the first tee.

The stretch to the right (I apologize for all the pictures if you are printing this article out) I am doing a totally body movement (stretch) that really gets your blood pumping.

Stretching On The Course

How many times have you lost yards on your drives on the back nine? This is very common and can be avoided by doing some simple stretches right on the course in between golf shots.

I do this all the time. My lower back gets quite stiff (from an athletic injury over 20 years ago), and I need to stretch it throughout the round.

A simple stretch I do all the time is a toe touch with club. I make it dynamic by moving in and out of this stretch. I don't hold it when I'm on the course, as this could be counter-productive to maintaining my golf swing flexibility on the course.

Stretch After Golf

Stretch after golf can be more static (holding), since you are cooling down and want to avoid any lactic acid build up in your muscles. The areas are lower back, hips, and hamstrings.

Just doing one stretch for each group will make an improvement in your after golf soreness. Just 5 minutes to prevent soreness is well worth it.

One stretch I do every time after golf is the seated groin stretch for my inner thighs and hips. This area gets very tight throughout the round since the lower body aggressively rotates for 18 holes.
