Golf Fitness > Golf Stretching >Stretching For GolfStretching For Golf Will Improve Your Swing
Golfers know they need to stretch, but why don't many of them stretch? Stretching specific to your golf swing will not only improve your backswing and follow through, but also eliminate risk of injury to your joints. Flexibility for golf will help any golfer, no matter age or ability. Your golf swing puts a huge amount of stress and strain on your muscles, ligaments and tendons (joints), and a sure-fire way to eliminate this stress is stretching. Stretches specific to your swing don’t have to be grueling or take an hour to do. In fact... my golf stretching dvd has 7 minutes segments you can alternate throughout the week to avoid boredom and maximize the time (only 7 minutes a day) you put it. Stretches Specific To Your Golf SwingDoing stretches just for the sake of doing them won't get you the end-result you're looking for. The stretching routine you should do will comprise stretches specific to different phases of your golf swing. Each stretch will target the muscles that affect your swing in these phases. For example impact, top of the backswing, halfway down, halfway through and at the finish into a full follow through. Breaking the swing down into these phases will make sense to you, and give you some direction as to what stretches to incorporate into your routine. Golf Stretching SecretsI have heard many different philosophies on stretching and how long to hold each stretch. I have heard anywhere from 5 seconds to over a minute! I want to tell you right now..."do not hold any stretch for a minute!" This is too long and will put you at risk of injury. Here's some golf stretching secrets for you! The optimal time for a stretching hold is 15 seconds. That's it! No more - no less! This time frame gives your muscles enough time to feel the stretch, but not to expose them to strain. Do you ever hold any part of your golf swing when you're playing or hitting balls? I don't think so. So why would you train your body in this fashion? You wouldn't! You would look at certain positions in the golf swing and incorporate dynamic (movement) stretches to improve those positions in an efficient manner. For example, let's say you are having a tough time making a full backswing. The backswing is a fluid and tension-less movement that is destroyed when you add tension or restriction to it. Stretch for Golf SampleWant to improve your backswing quickly and right in your home or office? Take a 7 iron, stand erect with your arms straight out in front of you. The club will be horizontal to the ground at about chest height. Turn back as far as you can without too much hip rotation, then turn through as far as you can with normal hip rotation similar to your golf swing. This is a dynamic stretch that is as golf specific as you can get, that will greatly improve both your backswing range of motion and your follow through. This is a simple stretch you can do anywher, and anytime! Simple Golf Stretching DVDThere is no denying the extreme importance of flexibility exercise for golf, and I can assure you my golf stretching dvd will quickly and effectively get you smashing the ball down the fairway, and not feeling that back ache afterwards!
