Would you have ever thought…that what you eat can affect your performance? If not, let me ask you this. Do you run out of gas on the back nine? You may even cruise through the turn with no problem, but what about by 14 or maybe even 15? If you start to lose energy, you mental focus goes right away! Along with that is poor judgment, club selection and execution.
You Feel How You Eat
What happens when you eat a candy bar? Do you feel great for a little while, then all of a sudden your energy plummets? It's called SUGAR! When you eat a candy bar, you rapidly shoot up your blood sugar levels. With this rapid increase is a rapid decrease. The end result for a golfer is no energy to finish the round.
Food is such an emotional thing for some people. They feel so good when they eat their favorite foods, but at what cost? Carrying extra pounds around? Not being able to move in your golf swing like you used to? Having the spouse be unhappy with how your look? You feel how you eat good or bad. How many times have you eaten healthy and really felt good…like you were on the right track to feeling better and looking better?
You Perform How You Eat
I know you don't want to think of this...but think like an elite athlete for a minute. Do you think they eat junk and hope to perform at their best? Now I know you and I are not elite athletes, but lets dream we are for a second.
If you want to play really good golf that day, why not eat a well-balanced meal before you leave home, then make sure to have some healthy snacks for on the course. Wouldn't that be the way to approach your golf game? Doing everything in your power to play your best?
Just remember…you are what you eat! Take a look before you put it in the old incinerator and realize what it's going to produce in terms of output (performance).
GOLF TIP: What You Eat Before Your Game Will Play A Part In Your Outcome
Most golfers don't give it a second thought what to eat before running out the door with no fuel in their body for optimal golf performance. I can guarantee you that the players on tour know exactly what to eat before their game. Do you want to know?
A combination of a complex carbohydrate and a protein This will allow you a steady flow of energy for the first several hours of your round. A complex carbohydrate is something like a bowl of oatmeal, high fiber cereal, whole grains and even brown rice (if it's lunch-time before you play). The protein can be a couple of eggs, low-fat cottage cheese, or even a low-fat yogurt.
Do not forget hydration (preferably water). Your body needs hydration before, during and after play to give your muscles, ligaments and tendons fluid for maximum strength and elasticity. Skip it and there will be a price to pay.
This article just scratches the surface on the importance of what you eat and when to play your best golf.
