Golf Slice Tips To Improve Your Drive

If you want a few golf slice tips, it’s necessary that you first understand the reason for a golf slice. If you think on what the result of a slice is, that might help you understand what causes it, and be able to cure your golf slice!

When you slice the ball, it shoots out straight to the target then starts to drift off right for a right hander, and left for a left hander. Let’s continue this explanation as for a right hander. For left handers it’s the other way round.

Even Tiger Can Slice The Ball

Everybody slices the ball at one time or another. Even the top pros slice now and again, and Tiger Woods admits to slicing occasionally during Major Championships. You must have seen him slicing into the trees. The difference between him and you, however, is that he knows what to do to cure it. And if he doesn’t, he has his personal golf coach with him! What his coach might advise him to do for a temporary fix is to tighten his grip a bit.

That’s your first tip on how to cure your golf slice. Strengthen your grip by moving your hands a little round to the left of the shaft. Why does that work? Just think on what a golf slice is for a moment. What exactly causes that golf ball to start drifting out to the right after a while? It starts straight than drifts out, and if you drive 300 yards, it can drift seven or eight yards every degree you are off centre, so even a three degree slice misses target by 90 yards.

Keep Your Club Straight And Avoid the Slice

No wonder professionals sometime slice into the trees! The reason it happens is the clockwise spin put on the ball due it being struck with a golf club face that is not straight on to the angle of strike. If your club is at 90 degrees to a straight line to the target when it strikes the ball, it will fly straight to target if your swing is straight...

However, if your club face has not quite straightened out at the time of impact, the ball will take on a clockwise spin. It takes time for this spin to produce a visible effect on the trajectory of the ball, but the effect is increasing all the time it is in the air, with disastrous results after 200 – 300 yards.

A Stronger Grip is the Answer in Most Cases

If you strengthen your grip by moving it anticlockwise on the shaft, the clubhead will straighten up and be facing the ball straight on when it makes contact. There are other ways in which you could cure your slice, but this works in most cases, and is the most valuable of the golf slice tips that you can be given for this particular problem.
