Ireland golf vacations are amazing!. From the world renowned golf links of Royal Portrush and Royal Count Down to the inland courses of Kilkenny and seaside resorts of Ballybunion, Ireland has a fabulous range of golfing opportunities for the golfer vacationing in Ireland. And how about Portmarnock, with its great history including national championships and the Walker Cup? While this links course can be benign and easy to play for an hour, it can then bite back with ferocious 45 mph winds.
Whether you visit Northern or Southern Ireland (and why not both?) there is wealth of golf which only Scotland can emulate in the ratio of great golf courses to population. Both contain around 5 million people and both regularly provide the backbone of the European Ryder Cup team, played in 2006 at the K-club, County Kildare.
Ireland golf vacations are better taken on a touring basis, and your tees should be well booked in advanced. You will be unlikely to just turn up and get a tee. Some of the bigger courses which are open to the public are booked weeks in advance.
You don’t play golf in Ireland every day, but once you’ve played there once, you’ll wish you did. Ireland golf vacations offer you a choice of links or inland courses. Target golf on beautifully manicured courses with the warm sun at your back or difficult undulating fairways with as ferocious rough as you will ever have the misfortune to try to hack out of, in the face of a gale blowing in from the Atlantic, straight across from America!
A golf vacation in Ireland offers everything you could imagine. One point you should bear in mind, however, is than many courses, links courses in particular, do not allow golf buggies and rarely allow carts. Walking is the order of the day. This is not only to protect the course, but the ground and terrain of a links course are generally unsuitable for carts and could be dangerous. Manually pulled golf bag trollies are acceptable, but not nothing motorized.
A great thing about Irish golfers and clubs is that no matter how salubrious and grand the golf club, you will always be made very welcome. Make sure you book your vacation well in advance and get to know something about the way of life and dress of the locals. Get some practice at knocking back the Irish Whiskey and when the time for your golf vacation comes, you will be all set to fit in and have a great time.
Pinehurst golf vacations should be attractive to Scots, but also to Americans looking for great golf and a bit of history. And what history! Ben Hogan won his first pro tournament here, and Pinehurst “Old Town” takes you back to the late 19th century. The people are charming and friendly and the food is to die for.
