Strength and Flexibility Equals Power

Workouts for golf that are targeted to achieve more power in the golf swing need to incorporate both strength and flexibility exercises. This combination will prepare your golf muscles to give you a full golf swing (minimal effort), generating maximum clubhead speed and driving distance.

Taking this approach will not only improve your power, but will greatly improve your stability, coordination and swing sequence for a repeatable swing that lasts the entire round of golf. You will no longer "peeter out" on the back nine.

Improve Strength Specific To Your Golf Swing

If you look at this illustration, I am using inexpensive golf exercise tubing attached to the top of a door, and pulling it exactly like my golf downswing. This is a very golf specific strength exercise that will prepare my golf muscles to explode into the golf ball. With this exercise in my golf workout, I am isolating a key area to improve my power going into impact.

Improve Golf Swing Flexibility

Stretching your muscles specific to the movements in your golf swing is critical to any power golf workout program. Skipping flexibility will be a big mistake. If you've ever been concerned that lifting weights will hurt your swing, you are right…if you don't stretch at the same time.

This is a crucial tip to remember with any golf workout program you plan to embark on. There are many workout programs for golfers out there that do not include both, and that is a big mistake.
