These movements should be as close to mimicking the golf swing as possible. Golf Specific ExercisesWhat are golf specific exercises, and is there such a thing? Yes there is. In fact, there are dozens and dozens of exercises specific to your golf swing that can be incorporated into your workout for golf program. Take a look at the position your body is in to make a golf swing and that should be the position you are in for many of your exercises. The closer you can get to your golf swing positions using resistance, the more benefit to your performance. Workout Includes Golf StretchesIf you have read any of my other articles, you will know I advocate strength and stretching together in your golf workouts. For every strength exercise you would do a specific stretch for that muscle. With this approach, you will never have to worry about "bulking up" or "losing feel" in your golf swing. In fact, the opposite will happen. Because you are improving your golf specific strength AND flexibility at the same time, your body control (consistency), range of motion (flexibility) and power (stronger golf muscles) will produce better and more repeatable golf swing mechanics! Golf Specific ApproachAs a golfer, you want to be reassured you are doing the right thing for your golf swing. So many golfers fear it, but look at Tiger Woods workout…has it hurt his game? I don't think so. How about Vijay Singh? Not if you look at the amount of wins he has "after the age of 40"! The results are in! If you want to take your game to the next level…you cannot ignore a golf specific workout approach. If you do, you will sit on the sidelines as your foursome blows right by you.
