Blow up holes happen to all of us...but is there anything we can do to prevent them from happening so often? The psychology in your golf game should be as simple as you can make it. Do not over-analyze your game, golf swing or even thoughts. I'm not a golf psychology expert, just an average golfer just like you, who struggles to maintain focus for 18 holes.

Play Conservative To Avoid Blow Ups

This is a "no-brainer"! Playing conservative will give you the best chance at avoiding big numbers on any given hole. I know it may sound like a boring way to play, but if you want a good score…this is where you should start. How many times have you "gone for it" and failed? This is a sure-fire way to have a high score every time you play.

Playing for a shot you know you are capable of is the way to lower scores and fewer blow up holes. I know I am not telling you anything you don't already know, but maybe this article will be a good reminder for you.

Stay In The Hole Mentally

Okay...here's where you should really listen! This is a mental tip for golf you have got to apply. You hit a bad drive that puts you in an impossible spot to get it to the green in regulation. Do you go for the miraculous 1 in a hundred shot, or do you punch out and play for a bogey? It's your call, but I have learned my lesson!

At this point in the hole is where you really need to stay focused and "on task". Assess your situation and make a decision that you know you can pull of 90% of the time. Once you make the decision…commit to it 100%! Intensely focus all your energy and mental attention on that shot and exactly what you want to do.

Psychology And Mental Alertness

Incorporating psychology and mental alertness in your golf game takes a concerted effort and one that needs to be consistent every time you play. The psychology behind optimal performance is all about focus. Being "in it" at all times! Mental alertness is a key factor! Paying attention to how you are feeling at any given moment and realizing how to control it. When you've got this down, you will be a consistently better player who beats the pants off your golfing buddies day in and day out!
