Don't let the picture scare you! You don't have to lift heavy weights like Arnold to improve your power. Simple golf strength exercises specific to your swing is all you need!
I want to bury the myth once and for all that strength exercises for golfers will hurt your game! Has it hurt Tiger's game? How about Vijay's? Do you think there is a common denominator for why they are the top players in the world?
If after reading the last sentence you still are not a believer, then keep reading and hopefully you'll have a better grasp of how golf specific exercises can greatly enhance your game and performance.
Take a look at the golf swing! What are some of the main components you see right away? How about...
1)You play golf and swing the club while standing?
2)You are in an awkward position with many areas of your body under stress before you even swing your club (I am referring to the address or your initial posture).
3)Now try swinging your club that is over three feet long at up to 90 mph, while keep this awkward position!
Wow! That's a lot isn't it? Do you think you could do this if you were out of shape?
Now that we know the general requirements of the golf swing, we can recognize the need for specific golf exercises that will improve your strength for golf to hit longer drives.
With this knowledge, we can quickly figure out these exercises should be as similar to your golf swing as possible...which means "on your feet". That doesn't mean every one of them, but as many as you can will quickly benefit your swing power!
Focusing on your core strength will be your quickest way to longer drives and no more back pain. Add a twist into every core (ab) movement and you'll see even more benefit! Starting a golf exercise program will do wonders for your game!
Do you have a problem with balance in your swing? Do you have a tendency to make golf swings that are not in control? The reason is physical weakness. Your golf muscles are not strong enough to keep you in your golf posture throughout your golf swing. Does that make sense?
Wouldn't it be nice to "go after one" and still stay in balance? I mean...on a LONG par 4 or 5, just crush your ball long and straight? It's a reality if you improve your golf specific muscular strength will simple exercises for golf.
Along with balance is stability. They go hand-in-hand, and in order to improve stability, you need to work on strengthening your lower body, specific to the dynamic movement of the golf swing. This would be from a lateral (side-to-side) motion, to a definite rotational (turning) motion. Training your lower body to improve stability is a must to produce repeatable shots.
Now you're thinking you've got to join a gym right? Wrong! You can do all these simple golf exercises at home. These simple exercises won't kill you or even get you out of breath! I don't believe in the drill sargeant approach. I'm talking about easy, fun and very simple exercises like the ones in my golf exercise manual. You don't need any fancy equipment, and you won't need an entire room to do it. How about in your living room or spare bedroom? That's all you need!
